GEOGRAPHIC POSITION

Sládkovičovo is situated in the middle of the triangle formed by the towns of Senec, Sereď and Galanta. From Bratislava, Sládkovičovo can be reached through Senec on the main road leading to Nitra. North of the town is where the regional center Trnava is situated; south of the town lies Galanta and Dunajská Streda.

ECONOMIC SITUATION

An important factor in the economy of the town, besides industry and other related services, is tourism. The food-processing industry also has a rich tradition in this area. The major companies operating in the area include the following:

Mraziarne, a. s. – processing of meat, vegetables and milk

Mlyn, s. r. o. – processing of cereals

Veneal, s. r. o. – wholesale of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks

Some of the most significant companies in the town:

AWR, s. r. o. – detached worksite of Whirlpool

Menzolit Fibron, s. r. o – manufacturing of plastic car components

Bekaert, s. r. o. – manufacturing of steel tires

The KLE, s.r.o. company has launched the establishment of an industrial park in the town. In the area of tourism, we have to mention the opportunities provided by the thermal pool Vince in the woods. The pond, which is part of this facility, creates favorable conditions for water sports.

The local government of the town is assisting in the acceleration of the development of the economy and the inflow of foreign capital. Towards this goal the local government is supporting the establishment of an industrial park with additional plans, which also include the establishment of entrepreneurs´ incubator.

HUMAN RESOURCES

Sládkovičovo gained town status in 1983. The total population of the town is approximately 6 000; the ratio of the town's population is equally distributed between those of Slovak and Hungarian nationality. The labor force of the town is highly qualified and has broad experience in the area of industrial production. The number of unemployed in the town and its surrounding area hovers around 2 100; this number has seen recent declines; the unemployment rate stands at around 22 %. Industrial companies in the field of food processing previously employed the currently unemployed - the majority of them are women.

Schools

There are four elementary and secondary schools in the town. Sládkovičovo provides secondary education in various areas by means of detached educational facilities, including one aimed at education in the area of information technologies. About 1200 students annually attend this facility. Job seekers from the town and its surrounding area can participate in requalification courses offered by the District Labor Office.

TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE

Road transportation

Sládkovičovo is accessible by the main roads I/62 (Sereď) and I/75 (Galanta). The city is 45 km from the motorway to Bratislava and 11 km from the speed road Trnava - Nitra. Galanta 6 km, Dunajská Streda 30 km, border crossing to Hungary at Medveďov 59 km, Nitra 40 km, Trnava 21 km..

Railway transportation

The railway line Bratislava - Galanta, provides railway transportation.

Water transportation

The closest port is in Bratislava.

Air transportation

The town is situated only 45 km from Bratislava; the airport in the capital city provides the closest possibility for air transportation. The general characteristics of the region apply also to the transportation infrastructure.

Western Industrial Zone

LOCATION AND SIZE OF THE ZONE

The plot is situated on the south-western side of the industrial park, perpendicular to the Dudváh River and the main road I/75 Sládkovičovo - Galanta. On the enclosed map it is marked as "1". The number of the map is (c) 7/2000. Ownership terms of the plot have been settled.

CATEGORIZATION OF THE TERRITORY

Area covered by buildings of mixed character 69,7 hectares, area suitable for further constructions 50,4 hectares, Total area 120,1 hectares. From the area covered by buildings of 69,7 hectares, 21,2 hectares is on the backward developed level.

PUBLIC UTILITIES ON THE AREA IN QUESTION

• 1 Drinking water, utility water and firewater supply systems

Supplies are provided from the water supply system Jelka - Galanta - Nitra, which is connected to Galanta water supply system between Čierny Brod and Košúty.

Developed, however, it is necessary to expand it.

• l Gas supply system

Out of 5 279 local units, 3 615 are housing units; out of which gas is installed in approximately 1 300. In the town and its neighborhood there are 736 large-scale customers. The diameter of the main gas line is DN 200, 300 and 500. The gas supply system available on the territory.

The system is supplied by electrical energy from the 110 kV basic system belonging to the district of Galanta.

A plot with a territory of 49,7 hectares consists of 9 partial units; industrial facilities belonging partially to the category of developing companies and partially in the category of companies designated for liquidation and/or with a certain part under restructuring are currently operating on this territory. There is also a WWTP in operation on this territory.
